Urge Americans to Stamp Out Hunger
On Saturday, May 14, 2011, the National Association of Letter Carriers will do their part to Stamp Out Hunger across America. Now in its 19th year, the Stamp Out Hunger effort is the nation’s largest single-day food drive.
In 2010, a record-setting total of 77.1 million pounds of food was donated, bringing the grand total of donations to more than one billion pounds collected over the history of the drive.
To help Stamp Out Hunger this year, simply leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable food items next to your mailbox prior to the time of regular mail delivery on Saturday, May 14. The nation’s 230,000 letter carriers will then collect the donations as they deliver the mail and take them to food banks and other hunger relief organizations in more than 10,000 local communities.
Supporting the Letter Carriers in their effort to Stamp Out Hunger is entertainer/entrepreneur and host of “America’s Got Talent,” Nick Cannon. Growing up, Cannon and his family turned to their local food pantry for help during tough times and knows first hand the importance of the campaign. He is appearing in this year’s public service announcement, which emphasizes how the demand for food assistance has never been greater and how easy it is to participate in the drive.
